Belas families are Croats and they are mostly from Trogir. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Trogir and Zagreb. In Arbanija in Trogir every third inhabitant had the family name Belas.
Prevalence
About 370 people with faimily name Belas live in Croatia today, in 170 households. There were 250 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 34 other places, mostly in Zagreb (70), Trogir (55), Arbanija (40), Split (30), and in Pula (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
