Belan families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Jastrebarsko , rarely Slova ci. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Jastrebarsko and Karlovac. In places Bukovac Svetojanski and Prodin Dol in Jastrebarsko every sixth inhabitant had the family name Belan.
Prevalence
About 260 people with faimily name Belan live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 330 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 24 cities and 42 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Draganic in Karlovac area (25), Karlovac (20), Jarusje (10), and in Slavonski Brod (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1683 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
