In Croatia, Beko families are mainly Croats (from Hrvatska Kostajnica area ), equally Serbs, and very rarely Montenegrins (from Split ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Hrvatska Kostajnica area and in Zagreb. In Ratkovac in Nova Gradiska area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Beko.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Beko live in Croatia today, in 15 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 7 cities and 5 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), in Dvor (<10) and Donji Javoranj (<5) in Hrvatska Kostajnica area, Glina (<5), and in Rujevac in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1928 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
