Begović families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Djurdjevac area. According to some sources the family name originates from east Slavonia Region, rarely Bosniaks (from Bosnian Posavina ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Djurdjevac area and in Zagreb. In Begovići in Petrinja every second inhabitant had the family name Begović.
Prevalence
About 1800 people with faimily name Begović live in Croatia today, in 740 households. There were 1700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 0 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 68 cities and 169 other places, mostly in Zagreb (270), Pitomaca in Djurdjevac area (145), Split (85), Cerna in Zupanja area (75), and in Vinkovci (75).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
