Basara families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Duga Resa area , whereas often Croats (from Karlovac ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Karlovac and in Duga Resa area. In Slunjski Moravci in Karlovac every fourth inhabitant had the family name Basara.
Prevalence
About 260 people with faimily name Basara live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 22 cities and 26 other places, mostly in Karlovac (50), Zagreb (35), Slavonski Brod (30), Vojnic in Duga Resa area (15), and in Rijeka (<10).
