Barun families are Croats and they are mostly from western Bosnia. According to some sources the family name originates from Poljica. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Western Bosnia (Livno area) and in Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 530 people with faimily name Barun live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 28 cities and 33 other places, mostly in Zagreb (110), Zapresic (75), Kastel Gomilica (65), Solin (55), and in Sesvete (45).

Family name Barun (including: Bahrun , Barrun , Bharun and Baerun ) is present in 33 countries worldwide.
