Banov families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Biograd na Moru area , rarely Hungarians (from Backa, Vojvodina ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Biograd na moru area and in Rijeka. In Vrgada in Biograd na moru area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Banov.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Banov live in Croatia today, in 40 households. There were 70 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and four other places, mostly in Vrgada in Biograd na moru area (25), Rijeka (15), Split (<10), Zagreb (<10), and in Vukovar (<10).
