Banjanin families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Otocac , whereas often Croats (from Osijek ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Otocac and Glina. In Ponori in Otocac every seventh inhabitant had the family name Banjanin.
Prevalence
About 120 people with faimily name Banjanin live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 260 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 17 cities and 17 other places, mostly in Zagreb (15), Rijeka (15), Pozega (<10), Osijek (<10), and in Samobor (<10).
Outside Croatia
At least four families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: the United States (2), Austria (1), and to Germany (1). Family name Banjanin is present in 14 countries on four continents. The family name "Banjanin " is used by some 50 people in the United States , small number in Australia , and small number of people in Venezuela.
