In Croatia, Bani families are mainly Croats (from the Island of Losinj ), less frequently Italians (from Porec ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Losinj.
Prevalence
Only a few people with faimily name Bani live in Croatia today, in three households only. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in two Croatian cities only, in Mali Losinj on the Island of Losinj (<10) and Porec (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1640 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
