Banda families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Slunj , but often Croats (from Karlovac ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Slunj and Karlovac. In Cvijanović Brdo in Slunj every fifth inhabitant had the family name Banda.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Banda live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 300 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 17 other places, mostly in Karlovac (40), Zagreb (25), Slavonski Brod (10), Mirkovci (10), and in Rijeka (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
