Banac families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Beli Manastir. According to some sources they are from Konavle, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Dubrovnik.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Banac live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Popovici in Dubrovnik area (15), Osijek (10), Darda in Osijek area (<10), Branjin Vrh (<10), and in Zagreb (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
