Surname Balog in modern Croatia

Balog families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Prelog area , also Roms (from Mursko Sredisce area ) very rarely Hungarians (from Osijek area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Zagreb. In Trnovec in Cakovec area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Balog.

Prevalence

About 1900 people with faimily name Balog live in Croatia today, in 690 households. There were 1200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent.
They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 54 cities and 164 other places, mostly in Trnovec in Cakovec area (155), Zagreb (150), Podturen in Mursko Sredisce area (90), Kotoriba in Prelog area (85), and in Djurdjevac (65).
