In Croatia, Balković families are almost entirely Croats (from Valpovo ), barely Hungarians (also from Valpovo ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Osijek and Valpovo.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Balković live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 17 cities and threee other places, mostly in Valpovo (15), Slatina (<10), Belisce (<10), Slavonski Brod (<10), and in Hvar on the Island of Hvar (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
