Bajić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina and according to some sources from Imotske krajine , less frequently Serbs and Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Bosanian Posavina (Modrica area). In Vojnić Sinjski in Sinj area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Bajić.
Prevalence
About 1700 people with faimily name Bajić live in Croatia today, in 780 households. There were 1200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 73 cities and 175 other places, mostly in Split (295), Zagreb (220), Vojnic Sinjski in Sinj area (135), Rijeka (50), and in Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
