Baić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Novska area. According to some sources they are from Sibenik area and Knin, often Serbs from Knin area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Sibenik. In Baići in Duga Resa area every second inhabitant had the family name Baić.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Baić live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 600 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 39 other places, mostly in Zagreb (25), Karlovac (15), Novska (15), Markusica in Vinkovci area (15), and in Vukovar (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1701 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
