Baban families are Croats and they are mostly from Valpovo area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Valpovo area and in Split. In Draževići in Middle Bosnia nearly every inhabitant had the family name Baban.
Prevalence
About 200 people with faimily name Baban live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 120 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 20 other places, mostly in Split (80), Brodjanci in Valpovo area (20), Osijek (20), Makarska (10), and in Bizovac in Valpovo area (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
