Bašica families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Mljet. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Dubrovnik and on the Island of Mljet. In places Maranovići and Korita on the Island of Mljet every sixth inhabitant had the family name Bašica.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Bašica live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 120 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are only located in in 7 Croatian cities and 13 other places, mostly in Dubrovnik (45), Maranovici on the Island of Mljet (25), Mokosica (15), Okuklje on the Island of Mljet (<10), and in Nova Mokosica (<5).
