Ambruš families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Cakovec area , less frequently Hungarians (from Vinkovci ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cakovec and Osijek.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Ambruš live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 120 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 14 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Osijek (15), Laslovo in Osijek area (15), and in Vucetinec (10) and Pleskovec (10) in Cakovec area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
