In Croatia, Alija families are Albanians by relative majority (from Vrbovec area ), rarely Roms (from Kosovo ), and . In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Kosovo and in Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 100 people with faimily name Alija live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 15 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Slavonski Brod (45), Novska (10), Krapina (10), Crikvenica (10), and in Zagreb (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1935 in source Faculty of Humanities University of Zagreb Alumni.
