Alar families are Croats and they are mostly from Obrovac area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Obrovac area and in Slavonski Brod. In Rosulje in Hrvatska Kostajnica every fifth inhabitant had the family name Alar.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Alar live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 130 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Zagreb (25), Slavonski Brod (25), Gospic (20), Sibinj in Slavonski Brod area (20), and in Puska in Novska area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1930 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
