Adžija families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Imotsko and in Imotski area. In Kartalije in Duga Resa area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Adžija.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Adžija live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in 6 Croatian counties, in 6 cities and four other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Glavina Donja (20), Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (20), Gospic (15), and in Velika Gorica (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
