In Croatia, Šilje families are almost entirely Croats (from Dubrovnik ), very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Dubrovnik and Gospic. U Gradu Dubrovniku every nine-hundredth inhabitant had the family name Šilje.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Šilje live in Croatia today, in 17 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in two Croatian counties, two cities and 6 other places, mostly in Dubrovnik (15), Donje Obuljeno (15), Mokosica (<10), Nova Mokosica (<5), and in Zagreb (<5).
