Šego families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Citluk area) and in Drnis area. In Gornje Planjane in Drnis area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Šego.
Prevalence
About 520 people with faimily name Šego live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 250 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 29 cities and 41 other places, mostly in Zagreb (145), Split (60), Solin (45), Kastel Kambelovac (25), and in Velika Gorica (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
