Čolić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Krajina (Prnjavor), rarely Serbs and Bosniaks (Bosanska Posavina). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosnian Krajina (Prnjavor area) and in Middle Bosnia (Zenica area). In Poca in Middle Bosnia nearly every inhabitant had the family name Čolić.
Prevalence
About 1300 people with faimily name Čolić live in Croatia today, in 530 households. There were 250 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 71 cities and 166 other places, mostly in Zagreb (215), Osijek (50), Zupanja (45), Pozega (45), and in Velika Gorica (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1606 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
