In Croatia, Čep families are almost entirely Croats (from Pregrada ), barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Varazdin and in Varazdin area.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Čep live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are only located in four Croatian cities and 12 other places, mostly in Varazdin (15), Zagreb (<10), Sesvete (<5), and in Trnovec (<5) and Beretinec (<5) in Varazdin area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
