Ćopić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Knin area , whereas often Croats. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Knin area and in Zagreb. In places Gornja Suvaja and Donja Suvaja in Knin area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Ćopić.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Ćopić live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 15 other places, mostly in Zagreb (25), Velika Gorica (15), Metkovic (10), Jastrebarsko (<10), and in Donja Suvaja in Knin area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
