Ćalić families can be both Serbs and Croats (from Nova Gradiska area ), very rarely Jews. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Hrvatska Kostajnica area and in Western Bosnia (Tomislavgrad area). In Gorička in Hrvatska Kostajnica area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Ćalić.
Prevalence
About 330 people with faimily name Ćalić live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 390 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 43 other places, mostly in Zagreb (55), Davor in Nova Gradiska area (45), Goricka in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (35), Brgud (15), and in Tenja (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1721 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
