Zlatar families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Brac , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and on the Island of Brac. In Povlja on the Island of Brac every eighth inhabitant had the family name Zlatar.
Prevalence
About 460 people with faimily name Zlatar live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 450 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 33 cities and 43 other places, mostly in Zagreb (75), Povlja on the Island of Brac (55), Split (40), Gola in Djurdjevac area (30), and in Vukovar (25).
Outside Croatia
At least nine families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Germany (3), the United States (2), Switzerland (2), Canada (1), and to Chile (1). Family name Zlatar is present in 23 countries worldwide.
