Zečić families are Croats and they are mostly from Omis area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Omis. In Blato na Cetini in Omis every eighth inhabitant had the family name Zečić.
Prevalence
About 400 people with faimily name Zečić live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 260 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 21 cities and 28 other places, mostly in Split (115), Zagreb (70), Blato na Cetini (35), Omis (20), and in Dugi Rat in Omis area (20).
Outside Croatia
Family name Zečić (including: Zecic , Zechnich ) is present in 15 countries on three continents. The family name "Zecic " is used by some 80 people in the United States , small number in Germany , and small number of people in France. "Zechnich " is used by small number of people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
