Vuković families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Slunj area. According to some sources they are from Brinje area, rarely Serbs, and Montenegrins. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Split. In Saborsko in Slunj area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Vuković.
Prevalence
About 9600 people with faimily name Vuković live in Croatia today, in 4000 households. There were 8400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 115 cities and 773 other places, mostly in Zagreb (1345), Split (510), Babina Greda in Zupanja area (295), Rijeka (270), and in Osijek (250).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over two hundred times, the first time 1683 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
