Vraneš families can be both Croats (the family name originates from Zagreb. According to some sources Tuzevica in Brinje area) and Serbs and Montenegrins (from Pljevlja, Montenegro ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Senj area.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Vraneš live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 250 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Zagreb (25), Ivanic-Grad (15), Rijeka (10), Beli Manastir (<10), and in Zadar (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
