Vereš families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Grubisno Polje area , rarely Hungarians (from Backa, Vojvodina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Djakovo.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Vereš live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 240 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 25 other places, mostly in Zagreb (55), Osijek (10), Grubisno Polje (10), Mala Pisanica in Grubisno Polje area (10), and in Beli Manastir (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
