Veljačić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Crikvenica , less frequently Bosniaks (from Bosnian Posavina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Zagreb. In Čikule in Bosanian Posavina every second inhabitant had the family name Veljačić.
Prevalence
About 190 people with faimily name Veljačić live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 140 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Rijeka (40), Crikvenica (35), Pula (20), Bribir in Novi Vinodolski area (20), and in Split (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1678 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
