Velagić families are mainly Bosniaks and they are mostly from Semberija (Bosnia), whereas often Croats (from Cazinska Krajina Region, Bosnia) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Western Bosnia (Livno area) and in Grubisno Polje area. In Mali Badić in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every second inhabitant had the family name Velagić.
Prevalence
About 180 people with faimily name Velagić live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 21 other places, mostly in Zagreb (55), Split (15), Vir in Nin area (15), Pula (15), and in Umag (10).
Outside Croatia
At least three families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to Sweden (2) and the United States (1). Family name Velagić is present in 17 countries on three continents. The family name "Velagic " is used by some 800 people in Germany , about 200 in the United States , and some 100 people in Austria.
