Taritaš families are Croats and they are mostly from Garesnica area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bjelovar and in Bjelovar area. In Rastovac in Bjelovar area every third inhabitant had the family name Taritaš.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Taritaš live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 20 other places, mostly in Ivanska in Bjelovar area (20), Bjelovar (20), Zagreb (15), Rastovac (10), and in Lekenik in Petrinja area (<10).
Outside Croatia
Family name Taritaš is present in four countries on three continents. The family name "Taritas " is used by some 80 people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
