Staničić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Makarska area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Makarska. In places Bast and Baška Voda in Makarska area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Staničić.

About 620 people with faimily name Staničić live in Croatia today, in 290 households. There were 630 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 32 cities and 34 other places, mostly in Baska Voda in Makarska area (120), Zagreb (100), Kampor on the Island of Rab (75), Split (65), and in Makarska (65).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1606 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
