Stančić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Brac. According to some sources they are from Baranje, rarely Serbs, and Italians (Buje). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Sibenik. In Slivno in Sibenik every sixth inhabitant had the family name Stančić.
Prevalence
About 780 people with faimily name Stančić live in Croatia today, in 350 households. There were 810 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 45 cities and 67 other places, mostly in Zagreb (145), Sumartin on the Island of Brac (80), Sibenik (75), Stari Grad on the Island of Hvar (60), and in Rijeka (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
