In Croatia, Sofić families are mainly Croats (from Velika Gorica ), less frequently Bosniaks (from Tuzla Region (Bosnia) ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Doboj, Bosnia (Doboj area) and in Zagreb. In Dubrave Gornje in Tuzla Region (Bosnia) every eighth inhabitant had the family name Sofić.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Sofić live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 9 cities and 5 other places, mostly in Zagreb (15), Pula (10), Dubrovnik (<10), Makarska (<10), and in Strmec Bukevski (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
