Smoljanović families are generally Croats and they are mostly from Omis , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Omis. In Blato na Cetini in Omis every ninth inhabitant had the family name Smoljanović.
Prevalence
About 420 people with faimily name Smoljanović live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 510 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 29 cities and 29 other places, mostly in Split (85), Blato na Cetini (75), Zagreb (65), Veliki Poganac in Koprivnica area (25), and in Omis (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
