Smokvina families are Croats and they are mostly from Rijeka. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Dubrovnik. In Kostrena Sveta Lucija in Bakr area every second inhabitant had the family name Smokvina.
Prevalence
About 130 people with faimily name Smokvina live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 7 cities and 14 other places, mostly in Rijeka (80), Mokosica (15), Zagreb (10), Glavani in Bakr area (<10), and in Matulji in Opatija area (<10).
Outside Croatia
At least three families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Switzerland (1), the United States (1), and to Germany (1). Family name Smokvina is present in 12 countries on four continents.
