Simić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Knin area , whereas often Croats (Nova Gradiska area) very rarely Roms. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Nova Gradiska area. In Riječani Gornji in Bosanian Posavina every second inhabitant had the family name Simić.
Prevalence
About 1500 people with faimily name Simić live in Croatia today, in 710 households. There were 1100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 80 cities and 141 other places, mostly in Zagreb (195), Rijeka (70), Orlic in Knin area (70), Pula (65), and in Davor in Nova Gradiska area (65).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1689 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
