Surname Salkić in modern Croatia

Salkić families can be both Croats (the family name originates from Cazinska Krajina Region , Bosnia) and Bosniaks (from Podrinje, Bosnia), very rarely Roms. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Cazin area) and in Zagreb. In Podčauš in Podrinje (Bosnia) nearly every inhabitant had the family name Salkić.

Prevalence

About 220 people with faimily name Salkić live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied.
They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 35 cities and 34 other places, mostly in Zagreb (55), Sesvete (50), Rijeka (20), Pula (15), and in Gunja in Zupanja area (<10).

The family name "Salkic " is used by some 400 people in Germany , about 300 in the United States , and some 100 people in Afghanistan. "Salcich " is used by small number of people in the United States.
