In Croatia, Ruševljan families are generally Croats (from Petrinja area ), very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sisak and in Petrinja area. In Pokupsko Vratečko in Petrinja area every second inhabitant had the family name Ruševljan.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Ruševljan live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are only located in two Croatian cities and 9 other places, mostly in Zagreb (10), Sisak (<10), Lipovec in Oroslavje area (<10), Pokupsko Vratecko in Petrinja area (<10), and in Pisarovina in Jastrebarsko area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
