Rekić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Cazinska Krajina Region (Bosnia), often Serbs and Bosniaks (from Cazinska Krajina Region , Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Cazin area) and in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Bihac area). In Tržac in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every seventh inhabitant had the family name Rekić.
Prevalence
About 240 people with faimily name Rekić live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 270 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 26 cities and 47 other places, mostly in Zagreb (60), Rijeka (35), Pula (15), Grubisno Polje (15), and in Daruvar (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
