Prančević families are Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area. According to some sources they are from Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Sinj area.
Prevalence
About 100 people with faimily name Prančević live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are only located in in 7 Croatian cities and 9 other places, mostly in Split (65), Podstrana in Solin area (10), Podhum in Rijeka area (<10), Topoline in Nasice area (<10), and in Viskovci in Djakovo area (<10).
Outside Croatia
At least two families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to Germany (1) and the United States (1). Family name Prančević is present in two countries on two continents. The family name "Prancevic " is used by small number of people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
