Pirić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Makarska area , rarely Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Osijek. In Vir in Herzegovina every thirtieth inhabitant had the family name Pirić.
Prevalence
About 330 people with faimily name Pirić live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 28 other places, mostly in Zagreb (65), Split (50), Osijek (45), Podstrana in Solin area (20), and in Lopar on the Island of Rab (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1842 in source Catholic Church Parish Records 1842.
