Petriš families are Croats and they are mostly from Sveti Ivan Zelina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sveti Ivan Zelina and Varazdin. In Novo Mjesto in Sveti Ivan Zelina every sixth inhabitant had the family name Petriš.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Petriš live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Polonje (15), Koskovec in Ivanec area (10), Sveti Ivan Zelina (10), Novo Mjesto (<10), and in Konak (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1614 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
