In Croatia, Pekeč families are mainly Serbs, less frequently Croats (from Zagreb ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Slunj area and in Zagreb. In Begovo Brdo in Slunj area every third inhabitant had the family name Pekeč.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Pekeč live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Zagreb (30), Klokoc in Duga Resa area (10), Cetingrad in Slunj area (<10), Tici (<10), and in Rijeka (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
