Pecotić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Korcula. According to some sources they are from Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Korcula and in Split. In Smokvica on the Island of Korcula every third inhabitant had the family name Pecotić.
Prevalence
About 360 people with faimily name Pecotić live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 320 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 16 other places, mostly in Smokvica on the Island of Korcula (270), Split (30), Zagreb (25), Dubrovnik (15), and in Korcula on the Island of Korcula (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
