Peškir families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Petrinja , whereas often Croats (from Sisak ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Petrinja and Sisak. In Moštanica in Petrinja every third inhabitant had the family name Peškir.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Peškir live in Croatia today, in 40 households. There were 200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in 6 Croatian counties, in 7 cities and 7 other places, mostly in Mostanica (20), Sisak (20), Petrinja (15), Blinjski Kut (10), and in Zagreb (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
